The first sketches.
Older existing sports halls that no longer meet the municipality's standards. Demolish? A shame. A completely renewed construction? Unnecessary. Technical textiles make it possible to give an existing hall a new look. Without demolishing the building. Without modifying the construction. The challenge? Comply with the fire safety requirements and the NOC*NSF acoustic standards.
The wooden scraps made the building a fire hazard. This is because of the Tempex material behind it. A structural study also showed that both the roof and ceiling could not carry any extra weight. Conclusion: the textile cloth had to completely replace the wooden scraps.
During the first visit, a handsketch was quickly made. The technical textile is easy to adapt to all sizes and shapes. This made it perfect for the dimensions of this round hall.
Tailored solutions.
Our solution had to be adapted to the existing construction. The sports hall, fifty to sixty years old, did not exactly match the original construction plans.
This required renewed engineering and enhanced technical drawings. Based on the sketches, our engineers carried out a digital 3D measurement in order to be able to make the textile customized. Here, the current state of the hall was the starting point.
From 3D measurement to detailed solution.
The implementation design. The phase where the material is custom-made. This required the most appropriate mounting method that would be attached to the existing hall was designed.
With a keen eye for detail, the textile fits very closely to the existing structure. This is crucial, because the connections must be specifically clamped to meet fire safety requirements. Thus, the textile effectively acts as a wall. By spending extra time and attention on the design process, we guaranteed the perfect fit. The result is a very detailed technical drawing, making the solution easy to assemble by our technicians.
Production and assembly.
Each area within the hall has unique dimensions. As a result, twenty different ceiling and wall segments were individually designed. These, in turn, were installed in a specific order. The textile was attached using custom-made wooden milling parts. Each piece of textile had a unique code, corresponding to a specific type of ceiling or wall segment.
Within a period of two weeks, the entire sports hall was renovated. Despite the extensive work, the hall was able to remain partially open for use. To protect the vulnerable floor, special spider lifts were used.
A significant upgrade by adding fire resistant material behind the textile ensured fire safety that meets all standards. As a result, the sports hall not only meets current but also future standards in the field of sound insulation and fire resistance.
End result.
The delivery. Together with the customer, we go through everything until the last detail is right. We spoke to a gym teacher in the sports hall. He explained how he can now communicate with the children normally again. Without having to yell in a safe sports hall.
What was the client most satisfied with? The sleek finish, color of the material and the substantial noise reduction. A true masterpiece.
