De Dukdalf sports hall
With the use of technical textiles, the acoustic environment in a sports hall can be optimized. For sports hall De Dukdalf in Brielle, we developed custom acoustic coverings in close cooperation with the Municipality of Voornee aan Zee.
The Municipality of Voorne aan Zee was looking to improve the acoustic environment in sports hall De Dukdalf in Brielle. The client had specific demands for fire-retardant properties and better sound quality in the hall, perceived as problematic mainly by teachers and school administrations. The project had to significantly reduce the reverberation time while complying with strict fire safety standards.
From February to December 2023, our team, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Voorne aan Zee, designed and installed custom acoustic coverings for sports hall De Dukdalf. The project included 842 m² of composite fabric called dB-Tex, which has high sound absorption and fire classification B1, contributing to a safer and better-sounding sports environment. The design had to seamlessly integrate with the existing wooden trusses and meet the sports hall's aesthetic requirements, including a specific brown tint for the visibility of shuttlecocks during badminton.
With the installation of the acoustic coverings the sports experience at sports hall De Dukdalf has seen massive improvement. The reverberation time was reduced from 1.8 seconds to below the standard of 1.5 seconds, according to NOC*NSF standards. Additionally, the fire-retardant fabric contributes to increased fire safety in the sports hall. The project was successfully completed within the set budget and timeframe, thanks to thorough preparation and efficient installation.
The project at sports hall De Dukdalf showcases our expertise in providing solutions that are both functional and aesthetic without compromising the existing structure. A gym teacher in the hall expressed his satisfaction withthe reduced noise level: "I can now communicate with the children without shouting, which results in less fatigue at the end of the day." This demonstrates the importance of a well-designed acoustic environment in educational and sports facilities.
“A few years ago, we had a stretch ceiling installed in the swimming pool at De Dukdalf, and recently the sports hall was up next. For the second time, this project was awarded to and completed by Polyned. The new ceiling greatly improves both acoustics and aesthetics. Polyned brainstorms together with us in finding solutions, and the collaboration was once again smooth,” said Machteld Üstün, facilities team manager at Voorne aan Zee.
This project showcases our expertise in managing complex technical requirements, aswell as our dedication to delivering solutions that improve user experience and promote a sustainable future for public facilities.
Full in-house capabilities from start to finish
Our designer creates an initial sketch and provides an artistic rendering to deliver a clear visual solution for a realistic image. We also provide a cost estimate.
If you're pleased with the sketch and budget, we'll move on to the preliminary design phase, complete with final calculations, including design specifications, costs, and structural requirements.
Before we proceed with production, we finalize the construction details in a binding timetable.
Our next step is to execute the production and installation plan. Materials will be packed and delivered to the site, where our VCA-certified technicians will manage the installation.
Once the installation is complete, a handover with the project leader will take place, during which everything will be thoroughly checked. We also provide maintenance and service, customized to the project and in agreement with the client.
