TU Twente meeting spaces
Two remarkable spaces for meetings, featuring technical textiles. The meeting spaces are an example of how modern solutions can deliver an ideal combination of functionality and visual attractiveness.
On behalf of Trebbe Bouw, our team completed two meeting spaces at the "Slimme Verbinding," a strategic site connecting the Kennispark business district and the University of Twente in Enschede. Designed by IAA Architects, these spaces were intended to provide a dynamic and functional meeting point for students, faculty, and professionals. Our objective was to contribute to the design process and integrate technical textiles effectively, making these areas both functional and visually appealing.
The meeting spaces are based on a shipping container, enclosed by a metal framework covered with technical mesh fabric. This choice of materials and design imparts a modern look and integrates well with the surroundings. The technical textile, which covers 600 m², provides both privacy and sun shading, ensuring a comfortable and visually attractive interior. The challenge of balancing transparency with privacy was effectively addressed through the specific design of the mesh fabric.
Joost Hemeltjen from Trebbe explains why technical textiles were chosen:
“To enhance the containers' appearance, Trebbe used technical fabric around them. This fabric is black on the inside, allowing visibility from inside out while maintaining privacy. It also functions as sun shading. The decision to use technical fabric was driven by its aesthetic appeal, and from a cost perspective, it is a practical choice as it demands relatively low maintenance.”
This explanation highlights both the functional advantages and the cost-effectiveness and low-maintenance benefits of the chosen textile.
These meeting spaces showcase how collaboration between designers, builders, and textile specialists can lead to innovative and aesthetically pleasing solutions. The 2023 project completion enhances the University of Twente’s infrastructure, providing a new, dynamic space for interaction and exchange of ideas.
Full in-house capabilities from start to finish
Our designer creates an initial sketch and provides an artistic rendering to deliver a clear visual solution for a realistic image. We also provide a cost estimate.
If you're pleased with the sketch and budget, we'll move on to the preliminary design phase, complete with final calculations, including design specifications, costs, and structural requirements.
Before we proceed with production, we finalize the construction details in a binding timetable.
Our next step is to execute the production and installation plan. Materials will be packed and delivered to the site, where our VCA-certified technicians will manage the installation.
Once the installation is complete, a handover with the project leader will take place, during which everything will be thoroughly checked. We also provide maintenance and service, customized to the project and in agreement with the client.
