Castricum NS Station
A complete transformation for an NS trainstation, achieved with technical textile. NS Station Castricum is now aesthetically and functionally improved. Passengers are protected from the weather, and the canopies seamlessly integrate with the coastal landscape.
NS Station Castricum experienced a complete transformation aimed at better integrating the station with the natural surroundings while providing functional shelter for passengers and pedestrians. There was a need for 2 awnings on both sides of the trainstation that not only offer weather protection but also aesthetically compliment the sea and beach landscapes.
Polyned constructed awnings on both sides of the station, covering a total area of 450 m². These large awnings are unique due to the use of stretched canvas within a steel framework. A special challenge was the flat design with a slope angle of only 5 degrees, much less than the typical 15-20 degrees. This was achieved through an innovative design using stainless steel cables at the top of the canvas to provide support, ensuring stability and durability even during storms.
The new canopies at NS Station Castricum were officially opened on Thursday, May 20, 2021, and have been well received. They provide a visually appealing addition that reflects the sea and beach, fitting perfectly with the environment. The translucent properties of the fabric also contribute to energy savings, enhancing the project's sustainability. These canopies are functional, offering protection from the elements, and also enhance the station's aesthetic value.
This project at NS Station Castricum showcases our ability to design and implement structural solutions that are both functional and visually impressive. The unique flat design of the awnings and the use of translucent canvas are the first of its kind in the Netherlands, making this project a technical achievement and an example of innovative sustainability. It highlights our commitment to providing tailored solutions that exceed customer expectations and have a lasting impact on public spaces.
Full in-house capabilities from start to finish
Our designer creates an initial sketch and provides an artistic rendering to deliver a clear visual solution for a realistic image. We also provide a cost estimate.
If you're pleased with the sketch and budget, we'll move on to the preliminary design phase, complete with final calculations, including design specifications, costs, and structural requirements.
Before we proceed with production, we finalize the construction details in a binding timetable.
Our next step is to execute the production and installation plan. Materials will be packed and delivered to the site, where our VCA-certified technicians will manage the installation.
Once the installation is complete, a handover with the project leader will take place, during which everything will be thoroughly checked. We also provide maintenance and service, customized to the project and in agreement with the client.
